"I bought a scanner last year" EPSON EPSON v600 scanner out of the box + experience

Why did you think of buying a scanner?

This starts with my first roll of film. When I contacted a film camera a year ago, I saw that the sugar tablets that I had taken on film online could not be used. Cumbling out more than 1,000 pieces of private money, bought a machine with two lens film SLR and some film. At that time, there was no idea to buy a scanner.

What did the first film film shoot?

First think of entering some test data in, systematically test the real parameters of the camera and film. Data are as follows.

According to the test sample developed by the flushing, it can be known whether the metering of the photometric element is accurate or not, and what the true ISO of the film is. Because once metering is inaccurate, it is a waste film. Before he got the scan file from the printing shop, he did not dare to shoot the second volume.

Get the scan file, etc., bored b. The film is normal, and each film matches the EV value set by the camera. (Intentionally exposed, the film is very thin.) However, the exposure of the scanned photo file does not correspond to the exposure of the film! It is obvious that during the scan, the software sets an automatic color scale for each photo.

In this way, all photos are equivalent to the camera's automatic mode, which does not reflect the original camera parameters. It is also impossible to improve the subsequent shooting with the scanned photo data.

Only by scanning it yourself can you get the “original scan data” of the film.

What kind of scanner to buy?

There are many types of scanners. Canon, Epson, with a home tablet; Fuji Magic, who specializes in scanning film; Heidelberg, industrial grade, Imacon. Prices range from a few thousand to tens of thousands.

I don't know much about scanning and I don't know how long it will take. Sometimes he draws a picture, selects a flat panel, and can also scan a painting file or something by burning back the film. Seeing his favorite photographer, Matt Day, used the earlier V600 model. Amazon reviews are good again. As long as more than 1,000 pieces. Just buy it.

January 30 in the United States and Asia orders, catch up with the Spring Festival Express does not work. The machine bought years ago arrived only after a year.

Out of the box

Amazon's packaging is large and it looks like it will be a big home appliance.

The scanner's own box is not large.

Scan preparation

First you need to install the driver and supporting scanning software.

Run the system's own CD and follow the prompts.

Turn on the power.

The power supply for this machine bought from Meyer is a U.S. standard 110V and requires a separate transformer.

Connect the data cable to your Mac and V600.

Boot. Run Epson Scan Setting to check if the scanner is ready.

Film scan

1. Loading film

Place the film with the photosensitive surface facing up into the film holder.

Lift the top cover of the scanner and position A of the film holder to the scanner's A position.

2. Scan

Step 1. Scan Settings

Start Epson Scan software. Choose professional mode.

The first is the scan file class and precision settings.

The type of setting is film. 48 full-color. Resolution 3200. The difference between 3200DPI is not large.

Set the film type, resolution, dpi. Click Preview. A thumbnail of the film will be scanned.

This can be based on basic image information. Make modifications to your photos.

The horizontal bars below the adjusters are: Auto Levels, Histograms, Curves, Color Balance, and Palette.

If you do not adjust the color scale, the effect of scanning is as follows.

Click on the automatic color scale to scan out the normal computer monitor to see the effect.

In addition to color correction, the software can also perform noise reduction, particle reduction, backlight correction, and noise removal on photos. The following is the effect of each setting.

Sharpening and noise reduction are harmful to the picture quality. In the case of small film grain, it is not recommended to open it.

Backlight compensation helps with dark photos.

To get rid of noise, the ICE can obviously repair the dust attached to the film and damage the film. The effect is obvious. Compared to noise points. The ICE algorithm is more accurate. It can be seen in the comparison chart. Remove the noise from the glass as a noise. The ICE retains the shadow of the lights on the glass.

After the basic adjustment, you can click Scan to set the output format.

Step 2. File output settings

Test found. Output JPG, TIFF quality is about the same. JPG photo size is only about 10M. And TIFF 6400DPI can reach 300M, 3200DPI can reach 150M.

If you don't plan to refine, you can use JPG all around.

Document scanning

Set 300DPI, you can sweep out good results.

This V600 can basically meet my needs.

Only two points are not satisfied.

Scanning speed is slow. A photo must be scanned for three or four minutes.

The included clip can only hold 12 films at a time. A roll of film needs to be scanned three times.

Au Coating Mirrors

Protected Gold Mirrors with average reflection >98% for 900 nm - IR. These mirrors have the highest reflectance in infrared. Gold coatings are effective for applications requiring high reflectance in the NIR and IR regions.Zoolied provides the round, square and customized shape mirrors with a protected gold coating in various sizes. Protected gold is ideal for use in the IR wavelength range. The protective dielectric overcoat supplied by Zoolied is layered over the gold to help protect it from damage and make cleaning easier. These optics provide >96% average reflectance from 800nm to 20μm.
