Ams AG has introduced the compact and cost-effective speaker driver AS3412, which is the first to introduce Active Noise Reduction (ANC) into the mass-market market.
The new device extends the line of active noise canceling speaker drivers from Amers Semiconductor with Amers Semiconductor's proprietary analog noise reduction technology. This technology from Amers Semiconductor is being used by the world's leading audio equipment manufacturers.
The AS3412's excellent noise reduction performance enables up to 30dB of noise reduction in the 20Hz-2KHz audio range. As a highly integrated solution, the AS3412 in a 2.2mm x 2.2mm x 0.4mm chip scale package combines an active noise reduction circuit with a speaker driver to drive up to 34mW when connected to a pair of 32Ω speakers. The chip operates from a 1.6V-1.8V power supply and is suitable for battery-powered devices such as smartphones. In addition, the AS3412's power and audio system is compatible with the type-c USB and Lightning interfaces.
Supported by an easy-to-use development kit (including software GUI, firmware, and simulation environment), the AS3412 can be quickly integrated into end product designs. Unlike more complex digital applications, the AS3412 requires few external components, including a low-cost filtering network consisting of capacitors and resistors. This means that the high-performance active noise reduction solution implemented by the AS3412 is more cost-effective than ever. This will enable consumer device OEMs to deliver superior noise reduction for the first time to users of inexpensive headsets, including those that come standard with smartphones and media players.
Another advantage of the AS3412 is the integrated depletion MOSFET, which provides a built-in bypass function, eliminating the need for a large number of mechanical bypass switches, greatly simplifying the structural design of the end product, ensuring that even when the power is insufficient to support active noise reduction The speaker driver continues to provide audio output when functioning.
Even in noise reduction mode, the AS3412 consumes very low power. In the normal feedforward noise reduction operation, the microphone contains two 260μA loads, and the overall system only needs 11.5mW.
The audio performance of the AS3412 speaker driver is perfect for smartphones and media player headsets. The AS3412's speaker driver provides 112.5dB signal-to-noise ratio and less than 0.01% total harmonic distortion and noise figure at a music output of 30mW. .
Anna Wutke, Marketing Manager for Audio Sensors Business at Amers Semiconductors, said: "In the noisy environment, clear sound quality has been achieved in the past only with high-end headphones. With the introduction of the highly integrated AS3412, Amers Semiconductor enables traditional headsets to be active. Noise reduction, even low-end headphones can also have a noisy and excellent listening experience."
The AS3412 active noise reduction solution is now in volume production. The AS3412 Active Noise Cancelling Speaker Driver Evaluation Board is available from Amway Semiconductor ICdirect Online Mall.
