Samsung plans to launch TVs using Google software in January next year

According to foreign media reports, the world's largest TV maker Samsung Electronics plans to announce the launch of TV products using Google software in January next year.

Yoon Boo Keun, head of Samsung's TV business, said in Seoul that the details of the product launch have not yet been finalized and that new TV products may use Intel's chips.

In order to compensate for the adverse effects of falling prices, consumer electronics manufacturers have introduced new products using new technologies. Sony began selling Internet-enabled TVs in the United States last month. Samsung and Google have similar plans.

Users of Internet-connected TVs can purchase third-party games and various application software, can use TVs to check weather forecasts, and even measure the tension of tennis rackets. Apple has expanded its influence on the music player and mobile phone market by developing iTunes software. iTunes software can make it easier for users to purchase and organize songs, TV programs, and games. Now, Apple also plans to promote this model to the television field.

Samsung released its third-quarter financial report last month, and its digital media business lost a total of 230 billion won (approximately US$204 million) in the quarter ended in September. Samsung predicted that the price war in the TV industry will intensify in the fourth quarter.
