The lawsuit was filed by game developer Zenimax more than two years ago and has now evolved into a jury trial. The Dallas Court of the United States began hearing the case on January 9. Zenimax asked Facebook to compensate $2 billion, which is in line with Facebook's initial purchase of Oculus in 2014.
The Zenimax representative confirmed that Zuckerberg will testify on Tuesday. Later this week, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey will testify in court. Oculus Chief Technology Officer, former Zenimax employee John Carmack, first appeared in court on January 10.
Facebook tried not to allow Zuckerberg to testify on the acquisition of the Oculus trade, but the request was rejected by the judge. It was his first public appearance since Raki admitted in September last year that he secretly funded a political group and spread the negative news of Hillary.
The case's focus is on Carmac, who once worked with Zenimax on a video game company called id Software and was known by the outside world for planning games such as Doom and Quake.
Zenimax accused Oculus executives of intentionally stealing software and trade secrets by hiring Kamak and his five former id Software employees. Zenimax said that Carmac shared confidential information with Oculus, who used the technology as the basis for his virtual reality software, in violation of his contract with Zenimax.
Zenimax lawyer Tony Sammi told the jury in a January 10 opening statement that Facebook’s acquisition of Oculus was “one of the largest technology plagiarism in history.â€
Facebook believes that Zenimax’s claim is unfounded and that the reason for the lawsuit was that the company missed the opportunity to invest in Oculus before Facebook acquired Oculus. “Oculus and its founders have invested a lot of time and money in VR because we believe it can fundamentally change people’s interactions and communication methods,†said an Oculus spokesperson. “We’re trying to use technology in a futile case to seize technology from another company. We are disappointed. The truth is that they have no vision, expertise or patience to develop these technologies."
During the remaining three weeks of trial, Zuckerberg, Rudge and other important Oculus employees will testify in court to answer Facebook's acquisition of Oculus and how the Oculus Rift headset was invented.
